Wine Description
Domaine Rougeot Père etFils' Saint-Romain "La Combe Bazin" is a 100% Chardonnay white wine from one of the oldest plots on the wine estate, planted in the 1920s. The climate is predominantly clay and shallow limestone, giving the wine an airy, gourmand character. Domaine Rougeot has chosen to make a wine that is lively, pure and bright, in the image of what it likes in the great Chardonnays of Burgundy.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Rougeot is a real favorite for us. The family stands out from the rest for the quality of its wines. The Saint Romain La Combe Bazin is certainly one of the best I've tasted recently from this appellation. The balance between acidity, fruit and body is just sensational. This Saint Romain shows great energy in its youth, but gains in complexity with 2 to 3 years' ageing.
On the nose, the wine is very flattering, revealing notes of lemon, grapefruit, a touch of star anise and a hint of lime blossom.
The palate is chiselled and lively, as we like them in this sector of Burgundy. A great sensation of purity emanates from this wine. This is a wine that perfectly combines the gourmandise of Chardonnay with the precision of the Saint Romain terroir. The finish ends splendidly on a grandiose minerality.
