Wine Description

The Terrasses du Larzac Lous Rougeos from Mas Jullien is produced on nearly abandoned vineyards at the foot of the Larzac Plateau’s subsidence zone—one of the last areas that Olivier Jullien has brought back into cultivation. This appellation covers 32 municipalities northwest of Montpellier, nestled against the Causses du Larzac mountain range, which rises to over 800 meters at Pic Saint-Baudille. The soils are varied, consisting mainly of schist, sandstone, and scree formations, creating a terroir with significant elevation changes, protected by large limestone cliffs. The blend combines old Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache. This late-harvest terroir is among the last to be harvested on the wine estate, and its freshness is all the more pronounced as a result.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Terrasses du Larzac Lous Rougeos from Mas Jullien is one of the great reds of the Larzac region. Opaque, solemn, smoky, briny, and uncompromising. Its bitter notes give it great length, and it possesses impressive tension. This is Mas Jullien’s flagship cuvée, sourced from its finest plots: a deep, complex, and distinguished red, vinified with precision to express the nobility of Larzac.

The nose, with great depth, blends notes of ripe black fruits, wild blackberry, blackcurrant, morello cherry, garrigue, and spices, with a chalky, mineral touch.

On the palate, the wine impresses with its masterful balance between power and refinement. The tannins are fine yet firm, supported by a mineral backbone and remarkable freshness.
