Wine Description
The Monier-Perréol wine estate's Syrah-Viognier cuvée is an inspired new creation, the fruit of a bold blend of powerful Syrah and elegant Viognier aromas. Produced by Guillaume Monier, this cuvée bears witness to the innovative spirit of the wine estate, while remaining true to its fundamental values: respect for the living world, pure expression of terroir and natural winemaking.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The grapes come from plots located on the granite terraces of Saint-Désirat, in the northern Rhône Valley, between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. The soils are mostly composed of decomposed granite mixed with light clay, giving the wines freshness, tension and finesse. Syrah and Viognier are blended in identical proportions in the vat, for a smooth, harmonious co-maceration.
On the nose, the cuvée immediately seduces with its aromatic freshness and complexity. We find crisp red fruits (cherry, raspberry), elegant floral notes (violet, fresh rose, jasmine) provided by the Viognier, as well as subtle touches of sweet spices (white pepper, licorice) and graphite.
On the palate, the attack is supple and juicy, with a velvety texture and fine tension. Syrah structures the wine with tannic finesse and length, while Viognier adds volume, charm and suppleness. The wine evolves with balance between fruit, freshness and floral finesse. The lingering finish reveals a beautiful minerality and fine salinity, the signature of granite soils.
