Wine Description

Terrasses du Larzac from the Montcalmès wine estate is an exceptional wine from the appellation's finest terroirs. Crafted by talented winemaker Frédéric Pourtalié, this wine embodies the singular finesse of the great reds of the South. The vineyard is located in Puéchabon, in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac, where the chalky, pebbly soils and thermal amplitudes favor slow, harmonious ripening of the emblematic southern grape varieties Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Yields are low, organic viticulture is carried out with respect for natural balance, and sober, patient winemaking lets the grapes speak for themselves. Ageing in old barrels for two years refines the tannins without masking the purity of the fruit.

Mischler Philippe, sommelier at Mundovin : Les Terrasses du Larzac du domaine de Montcalmès is a remarkable cuvée. A discreet but essential figure in the appellation, Frédéric Pourtalié, whose passion for vines and terroir shines through in every bottle, has produced a high-altitude wine with a precise expression deeply rooted in its terroir. Far from sun-drenched caricatures, this vintage deploys freshness, density and balance around a classic blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, for which the house is renowned.

On the nose, the wine's complex bouquet evokes the richness of the grape varieties and the diversity of the terroir. Notes of ripe black fruit, wild berries and garrigue intertwine harmoniously with peppery touches. Deeper nuances of undergrowth and blond tobacco hint at further evolution.

On the palate, the wine offers a memorable taste experience. It's an explosion of restrained energy, where juicy black fruit flavors mingle with hints of licorice, pepper and thyme. From this silky material, where the Syrah provides the backbone, the Grenache the greed and the Mourvèdre the depth, emerges a delicate and surprisingly fresh finish. A harmonious alliance designed for ageing as well as for the table, this Terrasses du Larzac from the Montcalmès wine estate is one of the great Languedoc wines.
