The Paul et Marie Jacqueson wine estate is famous for its whites, notably Rully Blanc and Rully1er cru La Pucelle, to name but a few. The wine estate also makes superb, fine reds. It's rare to find a winemaker who can do both so well. Often winemakers are better at making reds or whites, but here they know how to do both perfectly. This vineyard, planted in 1985, is relatively young but benefits from a unique soil of limestone and silt, which gives it finesse and a slight suppleness.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This Rully rouge Les Chaponnières made a superb first impression on me when I tasted it. It is made from plots of Pinot Noir aged for 12 months, always with ¼ of the barrels new. The grapes are totally destemmed so that the wine is neither rustic nor tannic. The quest for purity is the hallmark of their entire range of white and red wines.

The nose is delicate and subtle, with notes dominated by slightly acid red fruit. A hint of menthol adds freshness. The wine reveals notes of violet and rose after a few minutes in the glass. A truly beautiful nose.

The palate is very similar to the nose. There are notes of red fruit, morello cherry, cranberry and pomegranate. There's absolutely no hint of ageing, just a patina of tannins. The lightness on the palate is remarkable, and the winemaking work is to be commended. A must in the range.
