Wine Description
Cahors Les Acacias from the Mas del Périé wine estate is the emblematic cuvée most representative of Fabien Jouves' style. This is a 40-year-old parcel of Malbec situated at an altitude of over 350 meters, where the soil is mainly composed of ferruginous limestone. Winemaking is carried out in concrete vats, as usual, and the wine is aged for 18 months in tuns. A real "coup de coeur" that rivals France's finest wines and boasts one of the finest profiles in the South West at the moment.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Les Acacias is one of the rare Cahors cuvées that can easily be enjoyed in its youth. Fabien Jouves offers us real pleasure in making a wine that is both accomplished in its early years and has ageing potential of at least 10 years. I have a real affection for this Malbec , which for me is one of the very best, along with the wines from the Cosse Maisonneuve wine estate, which are in an even more concentrated style.
On the nose, the wine is concentrated, with toasty notes and pretty hints of black fruit developing throughout the tasting. The bouquet is complex, evolving on notes of undergrowth and spices.
On the palate, the attack is extremely supple, with silky tannins. The body is dense and racy. There are fine notes of black fruit, with a hint of herbs to liven things up and add originality to the wine.
