Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Cosse Maisonneuve 's Cahors Les Laquets is a remarkable vin de terroir. Reflecting the methodical work of Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve, it reveals the purest expression of Cahors, magnified by biodynamic viticulture. The depth of the terroir and the finesse of the winemaking allow us to tame the usual austerity of Malbec, making it accessible from the very first years, but make no mistake: this wine reveals a powerful, racy , concentrated profile that will hold up well over a decade of cellaring.
The nose opens with notes of ripe black fruit, including blackcurrant, wild blueberry and candied prune. Smoky touches and a hint of eucalyptus add complexity to the bouquet.
The palate is very frank, with a deep, sanguine character. A certain rusticity may emerge in the first few years, but this will be tamed by a two-hour decanting. The dense, velvety texture charms with its juicy, delicately powdered tannins. Concentrated black fruit and smoky aromas coat the palate, while the seductive freshness of the finish lends the whole a stunning length.
