Cosse Maisonneuve’s Cheval en Tête cuvée is a new release, whose name is a deliberate play on words: the horse, a central figure in the estate’s life, and “en tête” (at the top), like a competition-winning cuvée that offers the best value for money. Made from young mass-selected vines planted on the lacustrine limestone plateaus of Quercy, this pure Malbec is vinified using a gentle and controlled extraction process.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Cheval en Tête de Cosse Maisonneuve is a fruit-forward, juicy, and indulgent cuvée, with a silky texture and perfect balance of freshness.
The nose opens with notes of violets and red berries—red currants and slightly peppery blackcurrants—in a fresh and precise profile, true to the wine estate’s signature style: no over-extraction, no overpowering oak, just the fruit.
On the palate, it is round, full-bodied, and enveloping, revealing a pulpy, velvety texture, with fruit that is as expressive as it is elegant, and a mineral tension in the background that reflects the estate’s beautiful limestone terroir. The finish is fresh, floral, light, direct, and incredibly easy to drink.
