Domaine Gonon’s Les Iles Feray is a unique, almost subversive cuvée within Pierre and Jean Gonon’s lineup. It is the wine estate’s only cuvée classified as IGP Ardèche, and this choice is above all a matter of conviction: the vineyards that make up this cuvée are located on the plain and could very well have qualified for the Saint-Joseph appellation. However, Pierre and Jean Gonon deliberately chose to classify them outside the appellation, in order to reserve their red Saint-Joseph exclusively for the hillside terroirs that they consider more complex and demanding.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Gonon’s Les Iles Feray is one of those wines that surprises with its balance of quality and drinking pleasure. A light, taut, lively wine with crisp tannins and pronounced acidity. In Gonon’s hands, even an IGP Ardèche becomes a serious affair.

Aromas of deep black cherry and wild berries unfold on the nose, enhanced by delicate floral notes—a palette that is both dark and airy, characteristic of northern Syrah. Spices add to the bouquet, accompanied by a hint of star anise and orange peel.

On the palate, Les Iles Feray offers an irresistible indulgence, with notes of black cherry and blackcurrant, enhanced by a subtle, refined hint of smokiness.
