Wine Description

The white Saint-Joseph “Les Oliviers” from Domaine Gonon takes its name from a vineyard site as unique as the wine it produces, nestled on the southern edge of the village of Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The blend consists of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, with each grape variety contributing its own distinct qualities: roundness and aromatic notes from the Roussanne, and structure and length on the palate from the Marsanne.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Gonon’s Saint-Joseph Les Oliviers is undoubtedly one of the finest white wines of the northern Rhône Valley. The consistency of this wine estate reaches a level of excellence that few other properties in the Saint-Joseph appellation can match. With its Marsanne vines planted as early as 1958 by Father Pierre, this white wine offers intense aromas and a rich, velvety texture, with an ageing potential that can exceed twenty years.

The nose is complex, with aromas of white flowers, peach, pear, and apricot, complemented by notes of almond and honey, in a profile that is both generous and taut, where the granite-driven minerality of the terroir constantly evokes the origins of this great white wine.

The palate is round and creamy, opening with lovely hints of bitterness. Notes of citrus, honey, flowers, and rich spices offer a particularly fresh and lingering finish. Invigorating acidity and subtle minerality support the overall profile.
