In the space of just a few vintages, Domaine Gonon's red Saint-Joseph has become one of the most coveted references in the northern Rhône Valley. The cuvée comes from 7.5 hectares of 40-year-old Syrah vines planted on Mauves and Tournon granites and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols gneiss. Since 1990, Jean and Pierre Gonon have been making the transition to more respectful practices, before committing themselves fully to organic farming.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Gonon's red Saint-Joseph is one of those wines that has changed the way wine-lovers look at an entire appellation. In recent years, the estate's crus have gained in finesse and mineral purity, without losing any of their gourmandise. Their minimalist approach gives the wines an inimitable aromatic character.

The nose reveals a bouquet of great finesse, with notes of black olive, red fruit, sweet spices and an almost meaty character, incredibly precise and complex. Violet and pepper are the hallmarks of pure Northern Syrah, animated by superb freshness.

The palate is characterized by a caressing, suave texture, followed by silky tannins. Its density, structured by a striking minerality, gives it remarkable ageing potential.
