Domaine Tempier's Bandol Lulu et Lucien is above all a cuvée of elegance and finesse. This wine is made from a blend of terroirs with a wide variety of soils. These include clay, limestone, marl and sandy soils. Mourvèdre clearly dominates in this wine, making up over 75% of the blend, complemented by a touch of Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Syrah and Carignan. The wine is aged for 18 months in experienced foudres to refine the material without leaving a woody imprint.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin :Bandol Lulu et Lucien is a very accessible cuvée when young. Moderately extracted, it retains a beautiful fluidity of substance and supple tannins, with surprising freshness. An excellent introduction to the Domaine Tempier style!
The nose is very open, with notes of ripe black fruit, coffee, black pepper and hints of cedar. It's both powerful and greedy, and particularly appetizing.
On the palate, the Tempier style is evident in the supple attack and silky, caressing tannins. Candied notes and a hint of herbs in retro-olfaction give the whole a beautiful relief. The balance between depth and freshness calls for a second sip!
