Wine Description

The Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Trapet Père et Fils draws its strength from the three historic plots that the wine estate cultivates on the eastern slopes of Gevrey Chambertin, Burgundy. Planted on 1.90 hectares handed down from generation to generation since 1919, these very old Pinot Noir vines are rooted in a combination of clay-limestone and marl soils, where clay-rich marl, more chalky white marl and gravelly scree follow one another from bottom to top. The biodynamic vi ticulture practised by Domaine Trapet for over thirty years involves meticulous work on the soil and the balance of vegetation, based entirely on natural rhythms and the absence of chemical inputs. Hand-harvested whole-bunches are followed by spontaneous fermentation and extended ageing in oak barrels, half of which are new. This special, attentive care delivers one of the most emblematic Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Le Chambertin Grand Cru du Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is one of the wines that will make a lasting impression on lovers of the Grands Crus of Gevrey Chambertin, and more widely of the Côte de Nuits. The vintage combines assertive ripeness with remarkable energy, with a structure that immediately evokes the great cellar-worthy wines of the climate. The density of the Pinot Noir, nurtured by very old vines, translates here into a deep tannic base perfectly poised, and confirms a profile built to span the decades. Without doubt one of the finest wines to keep in your cellar!

The nose opens with deep fruit dominated by nuances of cherry and blackcurrant, to which are added notes of blood orange and cocoa. Aeration reveals floral accents of peony and wilted rose, as well as a more telluric dimension evoking smoke and iron nuances. The power of this bouquet is still marked by the vintage's youthful character, but it's easy to imagine its extraordinary ageing potential after 10 years.

The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, driven by vibrant acidity whose staggering energy balances the ripeness of the vintage and endows the wine with staggering ageing potential. The black fruit is accompanied by an extremely fine tannic structure, still a little tight but already velvety. Accents of cocoa, coffee and licorice prolong the flavors to a majestic finish of regal length. It's perfection!
