Wine Description
Clos Venturi 'sAltare blanc is one of the most singular cuvées from this exceptional island estate. Produced from the highest terroirs cultivated by Domaine Vico, in the foothills of the Reginu valley in Haute Corse, this white wine is a vibrant tribute to native grape varieties. The Vermentinu, Biancu Gentile, Genovese, Riminese and Carcaghjolu Biancu vines in this blend are rooted in the granitic and sandstone soils of a panoramic terrace almost 500 meters above sea level. These varieties, some of which have been virtually forgotten, have now been brought back into the limelight thanks to the selection and winemaking work carried out by Domaine Vico.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : With its subtle bitters, smooth, fresh texture and floral, Mediterranean aromas, Clos Venturi's Altare blanc is a cuvée of refinement. You can smell the wind, the Corsican scrub and the warm rock. Winemaking is carried out using indigenous yeasts, with no inputs, and ageing is carried out with precision to preserve the natural balance of the wine without masking the typicality of the grape varieties. The varietal expression of the grapes skilfully blended by Clos Venturi will gain even greater complexity with a few years in the cellar.
The nose is expressive, evoking white flowers, juicy tangerine and citron zest. Notes of gunflint and fresh almond flow elegantly through. Discreet ageing adds a touch of fullness, without ever dominating the varietal identity.
The palate is frank and taut, with a delicate texture that coats the palate magnificently. Citrus fruit, a subtle hint of wood and a slightly saline, gently bitter finish are the hallmarks of Vermentinu. Altitude freshness balances the whole and gives the wine a refreshing energy. The sincere expression of a great terroir white, as exclusive as it is endearing.
