Jonc Blanc

The Jonc Blanc wine estate is located in theSouth-West of France on the Bergerac terroirs. For more than 20 years,Isabelle and Franck Pascal have fled the corridors of the Paris metro to cultivate their vines. They were fortunate to be able to settle in a singular location, an unspoilt island with an omnipresent limestone footprint. All Jonc Blanc wine estates are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. Their terroirs are mainly composed of "Castillon" limestone soils, which are very white and make up the bulk of the subsoil. There's also the much yellower Asteria limestone found in Saint Emilion. And between these two limestones lies a band of Ostrea marl, which gives the wines their vibrant character and unrivalled freshness.

These soils are typically what Isabelle and Franck are looking for. Lively soils with minerality, salinity and a magnificent chalky feel.

For many years now, the Jonc Blanc wine estate has been producing wines using natural processes, but today the INAO has decided to no longer be compatible with this type of wine, which is flawless on the palate but doesn't pass certification because it's not "standardized" like a Bergerac. A shame, considering the quality of Isabelle and Franck's wines. [read more] It's for this reason alone that the wines have all been downgraded to Vin de France, and the quality has been rising ever since..

We were really enthusiastic about this wine estate, which we already knew, but the wines have become even more precise and emotional, which is why we chose to offer a large part of their range, namely the magnificent cuvée Fruit, a light and fruity red bursting with purity. The cuvée Racine, formerly known as Bergerac Class Ik, is a marvel at a mini price. Cuvée Fleur is their atypical white, made mostly from Sauvignon, but not at all characterful. And there's no getting around the fact that the great cuvées Pure M, Pure T and Pure S are among the finest wines in the South-West.

The Jonc Blanc wine estate is one to watch very closely, as it has made enormous strides in the quality of its wines, and it would not be at all surprising if one day this estate were to suffer from quota restrictions.
