The benchmark for Crozes Hermitage

Domaine Combier is located in the northern Rhône Valley. It was founded in 1936 by Camille Combier, who divided his time between viticulture and growing fruit trees.

In the early 1960s, the Combier wine estate decided to use all its plots to produce grapes. The Syrah plots proliferated, and the wine was sold to local workers and the wine cooperative until the 1980s. It was at this time that Laurent Combier convinced his grandfather to expand the wine estate, convinced as he was of the potential of the Crozes Hermitageappellation . The winery was built in 1990, and it was then that the Combier wine estate's reputation began to take root.

Laurent Combier has been growing organically-farmedvines since the 1970s, on the finest clay-limestone plateaux with rolled pebbles. Today, he is one of the top producers of Crozes Hermitage wines, as well as one of the finest in the northern Rhône Valley.

His perseverance and sensitivity to terroir enable him to produce highly seductive wines with a singular expression. His two cuvées are the Crozes Hermitage Domaine, an essential wine with sumptuous balance. But even more so with its Crozes Hermitage Clos des Grives cuvée, a pure Syrah from half-century-old vines that reveals the quintessence of the Crozes Hermitage terroir. Less coveted but once again of exceptional quality, the Cap Nord cuvée is more accessible in its youth than Clos des Grives.

The Clos des Grives cuvée is on a par with Côte Rôtie wines of the finest vintages. A wine for laying down, it needs at least 5 to 10 years to be enjoyed.

Since 2014, Laurent's son, Julien Combier, hastaken over the reins of this wonderful wine estate.

A winemaker to follow whatever the vintage, as his consistency in quality is his greatest strength.
