Adrien Renoir's Le Terroir champagne is an ode to the Grand Cru de Verzy, a terroir on the Montagne de Reims renowned for its chalky soils, which imbue the wines with great mineral freshness. This blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay captures the essence of this region: the liveliness and finesse typical of terroirs classified as Grand Cru. The main harvest, from an exceptional 2021 vintage, is enriched by 20% reserve wines aged in foudre, enhancing the cuvée's depth and aromatic complexity.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Winemaking takes place in casks for the base wines, while ageing on the lees in the cellar for three years brings a silky texture and a slightly brioche character to the champagne. The low extra-brut dosage allows the minerality and natural intensity of the grapes to express themselves fully, creating a perfect balance between freshness and richness.
On the nose, "Le Terroir" reveals elegant aromas of white fruit, pear and apple, supported by subtle notes of hazelnut and white flowers, evoking the chalky, saline character of the Verzy terroir. As the champagne airs, light buttery and toasty nuances emerge, inherited from ageing in wood.
On the palate, the cuvée seduces with its full, creamy texture, underpinned by lively acidity and a marked saline minerality characteristic of Verzy's chalky terroir. Pinot Noir adds structure and depth, while Chardonnay adds finesse and tension, creating a harmonious balance.
