The Pinot Gris Grand Cru Sommerberg W from the Albert Boxler wine estate comes from a small parcel in the "Wibtal" area, where the vines are still relatively young, even though they are now over twenty years old. For this Grand Cru cuvée, winemaking is carried out in very old foudres to provide the wine with micro-oxygenation, which is one of the reasons why the wine holds up perfectly over time.

Philippe Mischler sommelier at Mundovin : The Albert Boxler wine estate is considered to be one of Alsace's finest, and this cuvée is no exception. The Pinot Gris Grand Cru Sommerberg W is magnificent in every way, producing a semi-dry wine with only 10 grams of residual sugar and magnificent acidity. The Sommerberg terroir reveals its full potential after 8 to 10 years' ageing, so you'll need to be patient to enjoy it.

On the nose, notes of smoke, toast, coriander and lime develop elegantly. After some oxygenation if the wine is young, the nose opens up to hints of humus and fresh mushrooms.

The palate is full-bodied and fleshy. Exotic fruit and citrus aromas blend perfectly. A touch of coriander and a hint of bitter orange add strength and depth to this Grand Cru.

Food pairing : Veal tagine with almonds and candied apricots
