The Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives from the Marc Kreydenweiss wine estate sets an example. The very dynamic winemaker Antoine Kreydenweiss unveils a work methodology based on respect for terroir and grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted with the greatest care. Ageing takes place in old Alsatian foudres, then in stainless steel vats for over 24 months on fine lees to give the wine body. Thanks to this precise work, Antoine Kreydenweiss achieves a wine that is powerful, mineral and saline. A perfect example of how to produce a late harvest wine of absolute delicacy.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The grapes come mainly from the Kritt terroir on ferruginous and stony soils rich in quartz, giving the wine energy and, above all, drinkability. Late harvests are often criticized for being heavy and lacklustre. Antoine Kreydenweiss has succeeded in bringing out the terroir in his wine while respecting the varietal typicity.
On the nose, this Gewurztraminer reveals notes of candied fruit, quince, apple and a touch of mango. After a few minutes of oxygenation, a slightly mentholated freshness also emerges. A flattering and very promising nose.
The palate is very fleshy, with silky substance and invigorating acidity. The balance is simply perfect, and I'm surprised by such precision and complexity. A superb Alsace sweet wine.
