Morgon Côte du Py Cuvée Javernières "Aux Pierres" 2023 Louis & Claude Desvignes | Beaujolais

Domaine Desvignes' Morgon Javernières Aux Pierres is an exceptional parcel-based cuvée from one of the most prestigious terroirs in the Morgon cru. This wine captures with finesse the essence of the "Aux Pierres" locality, located on the eastern side of the Py hill, an emblematic Beaujolais terroir. The 90-year-old vines cover a small area of 0.57 hectares. They thrive on complex soils composed of clay, schist, pyrite and disintegrated eruptive rock. This geological richness, combined with full eastern exposure and an 8% slope, allows the grapes to ripen slowly and harmoniously, favoring optimal concentration.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Our environmentally-friendly cultivation methods have followed the principles of organic farming since 2005, and have been certified since 2020. The soils are ploughed to preserve their vitality, and manual intervention ensures absolute respect for the old vines. Traditional winemaking in whole bunches lasted 10 days, extracting all the aromatic and structural richness of the fruit. Ageing for 10 months in 30 hectoliter concrete oysters enhanced the wine's purity, bringing tension and balance.

On the nose, it offers a bewitching aromatic palette, blending ripe black fruit aromas such as blackberry and blackcurrant, with mineral notes reminiscent of graphite and a hint of salt.

On the palate, the attack is dense and structured. The body, supported by a silky yet assertive tannic structure, expresses exceptional depth. Black fruit flavors dominate, accompanied by spicy and slightly smoky nuances, testifying to the unique influence of the terroir. The finish is long, persistent and saline, offering a sensation of remarkable freshness and balance.
