The Mâcon Cruzille “Clos des Avoueries Barramine” from Château de Messey is a cuvée produced exclusively by the château. It comes from the left-hand side of the Clos des Avoueries, which is distinguished by its soil composition, dotted with numerous limestone gravels.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The Barramine cuvée from Château de Messey comes from vines located on the edge of a forest, which allows the Chardonnay to ripen more slowly and for a longer period of time. It’s a true oddity in the Mâconnais region, as it reveals a very exotic and rich character complemented by lovely minerality.

On the nose, the wine opens with complex pastry notes as well as lovely hints of exotic fruits such as mango, passion fruit, and papaya.

On the palate, it is generous and full-bodied. The freshness of the limestone terroir brings balance to the wine. After some aeration, the wine fully expresses its mineral and chalky character. The finish is exceptionally refined and complex.
