Located in the heart of the Rully hillsides, the Montpalais parcel has been organically farmed since 2016. The Chardonnay here benefits from a rather warm, mid-slope climate, with southeast exposure. Domaine de Villaine 's Rully 1er Cru Montpalais reflects the unique character of this parcel, which favors the regular ripening of Chardonnay.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This Rully 1er Cru Montpalais from Domaine de Villaine is a great success, seductive above all for its balance. Aubert de Villaine's natural, gentle winemaking style is evident in the clarity of its floral aromas and its mineral finesse. More reserved at first glance than previous vintages, this Montpalais can be enjoyed now after a little aeration to take advantage of its freshness, or after 4 years in the cellar for more evolved aromas.

The nose opens with great delicacy on very fresh fragrances of hawthorn and acacia flower. Aromas of lemon zest and white peach intensify the bouquet. Traces of ageing are discrete and elegant, evoking toasty nuances.

On the palate, the attack is also fresh, with a caressing texture. The body takes shape through rich, seductive fruit flavors. A fine minerality gives the whole a lively, balanced character. More depth is found on the finish, where the fine bitters of barrel ageing come through nicely. A well-balanced 1er cru, with just the right amount of restraint.
