Cornas Les Côtes by Cyril Courvoisier is a cuvée born of the tenacity of a native of the Jura region who rebuilt everything by hand on the highest slopes of Cornas. Les Côtes consists of 30 ares of terraced vineyards in the eponymous locality, acquired in 2011 and mostly planted in 2015. Cyril works a total of 2.2 hectares, the vast majority of which consists of vines he planted himself. All are certified organic, with shallow soil cultivation, preserved hedgerows, and dry-stone walls rebuilt by hand to preserve biodiversity.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Cornas Les Côtes de Cyril Courvoisier is a Syrah that shatters all the clichés surrounding the appellation. This wine could well be a revelation for many, showing what is possible in Cornas, where some wines still carry the image of a rather rustic Syrah. Nor does it fall into the modern, smooth style—yet excessively oaked—that is found in so many others. It is a taut and precise Syrah with a clear stylistic kinship to Thierry Allemand.

On the nose, notes of cherry and rose come through clearly, in a profile that is both floral and fruity, delicate and crisp—an immediate hallmark of a hillside Syrah raised without artifice.

On the palate, it is characterized by a freshness and elegance rarely found in the appellation—a juicy, crisp Syrah that is deep, graceful, yet persistent.
