Wine Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet 's Chablis 1er Cru Forêts is born on a steep hillside between the prestigious climats of Butteaux and Montmains. Domaine Moreau Naudet cultivates a 2-hectare parcel on the famous Kimmeridgian limestone soils for which Chablis wines are renowned. The old Chardonnay vines plunge deep into the rock to gorge themselves with minerals, and enjoy sunshine that favors advanced ripening. All the work begun by Stéphane Moreau in the 1990s is carried on by Virginie with a deep respect for the living world: working the soil without weedkillers or chemical fertilizers, hand harvesting, meticulous sorting of the bunches. After slow pressing and a one-day settling period, natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats and barrels, with 24 months' ageing in vats and barrels of various sizes. This patient care preserves the tension, minerality and pure expression of the terroir of this Chablis Premier Cru.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : This Chablis 1er Cru Forêts from Domaine Moreau Naudet illustrates the fullness and uprightness of the great Chablis terroirs. A texture stretched by vibrant salinity, a harmony that links the fleshiness of the fruit to the minerality of the soil: the outstanding balance of this Chablis Premier Cru is expressed in the frankness of the juice and the restraint of the wood. A nugget that will easily last a decade in the cellar... for the most patient!
The nose initially evokes white flowers and ripe citrus fruit in a most appetizing vinous combination. Aeration reveals a slightly iodized chalky touch, whose chalky cleanliness avoids any superfluous sparkle.
On the palate, the fleshy texture unfolds with great suppleness, supported by fine acidity and a beautiful underlying tension. The wine is marked by an aromatic breadth rare for Chablis, between bergamot, fresh exotic fruit and a subtle unctuousness brought about by measured ageing. Freshness with lemony accents meets salinity and iodine on the finish, prolonging the sensation of mineral purity and relief with remarkable elegance.
