Wine Description

The Barolo Mosconi from the E. Pira & Figli comes from the ancient Swiss terroirs of the Barolo appellation. In fact, it is the oldest vineyard in the Alba valley. The soil is essentially composed of deep clay and limestone, with a superficial layer of siliceous sandstone, which gives the wine a rounder, warmer aroma than Barolos grown on Cannubi terroirs, for example.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Mosconi is a Barolo made from Nebbiolo grapes whose former names are Michet and Lampia. The vines are located at an altitude of over 400 meters and benefit from almost constant sunshine. This gives these Barolo wines great structure and outstanding ageing characteristics. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 2 years.

On the nose, the wine is very open, with spicy, oriental and slightly balsamic notes. The aromatic intensity is simply remarkable, combining finesse and elegance.

Firm on the palate, the tannins are still dry but will soon become velvety with age. The beautiful imprint of ripe grapes is complemented by floral notes. A great wine in the making.
