Domaine Fumey Chatelain's Savagnin is made from 100% Savagnin grapes from Montigny les Arsures, a south-facing hillside facing Arbois. The terroir is composed of flaky blue marl and calcareous clay. The yield for this cuvée is around 25 hectolitres per hectare. Ageing takes place in 228-liter barrels under veil for 40 months.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Savagnin cuvée sous voile produced by the Fumey Chatelain wine estate is a star performer. It develops typical oxidative notes while retaining great freshness and extraordinary drinkability. All our wines are matured in cool cellars, giving them a very fine texture.
On the nose, the wine opens with powerful notes of yellow curry, walnuts and bitter orange jam. Subtle hints of smoke and cinnamon add further depth to the nose.
The palate is incredibly rich and fresh at the same time. It's a feat that has been achieved with this Savagnin. The notes all become more intense and complex as you progress through the tasting. A must-taste wine that is all too rare, due to low yields.
