Wine Description
Grand Blanc from the Henri Milan wine estate is a blend of several white grape varieties, including Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Chardonnay and Muscat à Petit Grains. The vines are on average 25 years old, and are located on the silty-clay terroirs of Saint Rémy de Provence.
What's astonishing about this cuvée is its extraordinary ageing potential. A wine that can easily be drunk 20 years after bottling. Its aromas are as complex and precise as when young.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The cuvée Grand Blanc from the Milan wine estate is a magnificent example of a natural wine. It is produced with precision and great harmony. The Milan family has done a fantastic job of selecting non-local grape varieties. In particular, it was Henri Milan who worked to improve the complexity of the wines, thanks to the sound advice of Claude Bourguignon, a famous biologist.
This is why Grand Blanc is a Vin de France appellation, as many grape varieties are not allowed in the Baux de Provence or even Alpilles appellations.
The wine develops citrus notes, with hints of white flowers and papaya. A surprisingly fresh nose for a wine from Provence. It's the multitude of grape varieties that makes this possible.
On the palate, the wine is ample and full-bodied. This white wine is at once greedy and fine, and distinguished by the diversity of its aromas. They oscillate between notes of exotic fruit, a floral touch and beautiful hints of bitters on the finish.
