Wine Description
Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Champlots stands out for its privileged location in the upper part of the Saint-Aubin vineyard, overlooking the hamlet of Gamay. The steep slopes, very chalky soils and cool climate give this cru its unique character. The Larue wine estate cultivates a few small plots, revealing the nuances of this exceptional terroir. The old vines in the lower part of Les Champlots benefit from deeper soils of white clay and marl, while another parcel, neighboring the 1er Cru En Montceau, occupies the upper, limestone-rich part.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : In this concentrated, sun-drenched vintage, the Larue family found the perfect point of ripeness, preserving the typical freshness of the Champlots while retaining exceptional fleshiness and aromatic concentration. After two winters of ageing on lees, the wine has asserted its identity and harmonized its structure, with a final passage in vats giving it a perceptible energy on the palate.
From the very first nose, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Champlots seduces with its complexity. Notes of citrus fruits such as lime zest and kumquat, damp chalk, hawthorn, fruit tree flowers and fine herbs such as chervil, accompanied by a delicate maritime and iodine evocation, overwhelm the senses. The sensuality and fruity generosity of the vintage come through in aromas of peach, pear and yellow plum, complemented by some sweet spices.
On the palate, this wine is nourishing, intense and lively. The enveloping opening, rich in dry extracts, offers flavors of stone fruit and marmalade. The taste buds are soon stimulated by fine bitters reminiscent of quinine and bitter lemon, with a touch of fresh ginger. The finish, marked by an empyreumatic dimension and a tight, taut structure, pushes the wine forward, offering remarkable precision and clarity.
Food pairing: Prawn skewers with Camargue rice
