Wine Description
Champagne Marguet 's Coteaux Champenois Ambonnay Rouge cuvée is a continuation of Benoît Marguet's plot-based research. Produced from Pinot Noir grapes grown on the chalky soils of Ambonnay, this quiet red reflects the identity and potential of a terroir classified as a Grand Cru on the Montagne de Reims, better known for its Blancs de Noirs Champagnes. The vines have been cultivated biodynamically for over ten years, with horse-drawn tillage and the use of natural remedies to boost the old vines' immune systems. Winemaking is based on a low-intervention approach: 60% whole bunches, no mechanical extraction or crushing, and nearly twenty months' ageing in barrel.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Champagne Marguet 's Coteaux Champenois Ambonnay Rouge reveals a straightforward expression of Champagne Pinot Noir. It retains the tension and precision that characterize the wines of the Marguet wine estate, while asserting its own identity. This exclusive cuvée, limited to 1,600 bottles, is aimed at lovers of fresh reds, built on purity rather than demonstration. In an appellation that has long remained discreet, it is today one of the most accomplished faces of the Coteaux Champenois' return to favor.
The nose opens with a dazzling bouquet of fresh cherry, raspberry and redcurrant, with a discreet touch of violet on aeration. The whole is straightforward, with no overload, driven by the freshness of the vintage and the precision of the winemaking.
On the palate, the attack is lively, with fine, linear acidity that frames the wine without hardening it. The fruit remains taut, without becoming overripe, supported by a silky, easy-drinking tannic texture. Ambonnay's distinctive chalky minerality emerges as a filigree, structuring the finish with a lingering sensation of refinement. This Coteaux Champenois red shows good staying power, with restrained energy and immediate clarity.
