Description: Gigondas .1871 Les Jardinières 2023 Mise Tardive | Gour de Chaulé
The Gigondas Les Jardinières 2023 – Mise Tardive is a cuvée from Domaine du Gour de Chaulé, a family-owned estate founded in 1900 and now managed by Paul Fumoso, the founder’s great-great-grandson. True to its history and the terroir of the Rhône wines, the estate offers this cuvée, bottled later than its classic version, to reveal greater complexity and tension. This unique approach makes all the difference on the palate.
Terroir and Grape Varieties
The vines for Gigondas Les Jardinières 2023 – Mise Tardive grow on sandy soils resting on limestone subsoils, lending the wine finesse and freshness. Grenache Noir (80%) dominates the blend, complemented by Syrah (10%), Mourvèdre (6%), and Cinsault (4%), which contribute structure, depth, and floral delicacy. With an average age of 50 to 60 years, the vines produce low-yield grapes, prioritizing concentration and the expression of the terroir.
Viticulture and Winemaking
Certified organic by Ecocert since 2020, the estate favors a natural approach, with hand-harvesting and fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Aged for 18 months in large oak casks and concrete tanks, without fining or filtration, the wine then undergoes additional aging before bottling, thereby gaining finesse and complexity.
