Cuvée Grand Chemarin is the emblematic cuvée of the wine estate that has made it a household name in France and around the world. It's the legacy of Clément and Florent's parents, who tenaciously continue to enhance their Sancerre heritage and terroir. In 2010, a small revolution took place in the production of Domaine Vincent Pinard wines, as they decided to isolate the small parcel of Grand Chemarin to make a wine in its own right. This wine is situated on a limestone plateau and is planted at a high density, up to 10,000 vines per hectare, which encourages competition between vines and requires the vines to dig deeper into the soil. This planting method enhances the complexity of the terroir, but also naturally limits yields.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Located mid-slope and on well-ventilated terroirs, Grand Chemarin has everything it takes to make a great wine. All the more so as the oldest vines date back to 1961. A great tasting moment for me, certainly the wine estate's most accomplished cuvée.
The nose is exceptional, with notes of exotic fruit, citrus and fresh herbs, but always with great finesse. Sauvignon plays its role to perfection, revealing the terroir. The grape variety gently fades away during tasting, giving way to refinement and minerality.
The palate is powerful and elegant at the same time, which may seem contradictory, but it's exactly how I feel. Energy and refinement! The exotic notes and complexity are there, of course. But for me, the most important thing about this wine is that it thrills me. I don't care about the aromatics, it 's the balance that's extraordinary in this wine. Sublime and rare, only 2000 bottles.
