Long description
The Ampeleia wine estate is located in southern Tuscany , close to the Mediterranean. The vines are located between 200 and 600 meters above sea level, benefiting from a special microclimate that allows the grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in perfect ripeness. Elisabetta Foradori, the estate's founder, wanted to preserve the environment in which the Ampeleia vineyards are located, which is why there are so many chestnut and olive trees alongside Sangiovese, Alicante and Carignan vines.
Elisabetta has also chosen to play with the blends according to the vintage, which makes it possible to obtain a harmonious expression of the terroir even in very warm vintages. Southern grape varieties such as Alicante, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Sangiovese are all located at the bottom and middle of the slopes, at altitudes of between 200 and 350 meters, to preserve the freshness of the wines. On the upper slopes, the Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes thrive at altitudes of over 450 meters.
Each wine is vinified in cement tanks with the greatest care and in the most natural way possible. The cuvée Unlitro is a wine bottled in liter, which is very rare. It's made mainly from a blend of young Grenache, Carignan and Alicante Bouschet vines. A fruity wine perfectly suited to grilled meats and/or meals with friends.
The Alicante is made from a selection ofGrenache vines grown on sandy terroirs. It's a supple, silky wine with a long finish and great drinkability. The grand cuvée, Ampeleia, is made fromSangiovese,Cabernet Franc and four other grape varieties. These are the oldest vines on the wine estate.
The wine estate's most atypical cuvée is Bianco di Ampeleia, made fromTrebbiano, Malvasia andAnsonica grapes.
