The Roucas Toumba wine estate— which means “Fallen Rock” in the Provençal dialect—is a 15-hectare family-owned wine estate located in the town of Vacqueyras, sharing its excellent Rhône wineswith us. The Bouletin family is an integral part of this appellation’s historical heritage, as records dating back to 1580 document their presence. It wasn’t until 2006 that Eric Bouletin decided to establish his own winery for winemaking and ageing. Before that, all the grapes were sold to the cooperative winery.
They quickly chose to cultivate their vineyards using organic farming methods in order to respect as much as possible the local flora, fauna, and the many birds found in the Vacqueyras area.
This commitment to living off the land was a revelation for the Bouletin family, who consistently advocate “drink less, drink better”—a philosophy that aligns perfectly with Mundovin’s.
And it must be said thatEric Bouletin is one of the most respectable winemakers, as he completely ignores trends in marketing, image, and modern communication. He puts tradition and his philosophy of life at the service of his terroir—that is what matters most to him.
The Roucas Toumba wine estate is therefore not highly rated or featured in major French magazines, but it is indeed one of the finest wine estates in the Vacqueyras appellation.
The wines are authentic and not necessarily for everyone, as exemplified by the Vacqueyras La Grande Terre and the Les Restanques de Cabassole cuvée—two Vacqueyras wines that are an absolute must-try, as they embody the true essence of the appellation. The white wine is simply incredible in its depth and complexity.
