Long description
Dijon-born Antoine Sunier grew up surrounded by influential winemakers, notably Christophe Roumier, thanks to his mother's hairdressing salon. Although his career initially took a detour into telecommunications, he eventually followed the family passion for wine, inspired by his brother Julien Sunier, also a winemaker.
In 2012, Antoine quit his job to devote himself to oenology. After studying in Beaune and internships with natural wine pioneer Jean-Claude Lapalu and at Château de Prémeaux in Burgundy, he founded his own wine estate. He started with a few hectares of old vines in Régnié and Morgon, some of which were already organically farmed.
Beaujolais, a welcoming land for young winemakers, enabled Antoine to find reasonably-priced vineyards and join a dynamic community of natural wine producers. This region underwent a "revolution" in the 1980s with the "Gang of Four" (Domaine Lapierre, Thevenet, Domaine Foillard and Breton) , who restored Beaujolais to its rightful place in the wine world.
Antoine Sunier's first wines produced in 2014 are a Régnié and a Morgon. The Régnié comes from two hectares of 45-year-old vines, while the Morgon is made from 1.2 hectares of 60+ year-old vines located in Grand Cras. The grapes are harvested by hand, with carbonic fermentation in concrete vats using only indigenous yeasts. After 8 to 15 days of fermentation, the grapes are pressed and the wine aged in 8-year-old Burgundy barrels for 7 to 8 months. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration, with only a small amount of sulfites added.
The style of Antoine Sunier's wines is characterized by a fleshy texture, combining power and delicacy with an amplitude and grace typical of the best Beaujolais wines. Antoine's philosophy is based on passion and patience, with the utmost respect for living organisms and terroirs.
Antoine Sunier, with his talent and wit, is an exemplary ambassador for the region and its wines. Don't miss the opportunity to discover the exceptional cuvées from the Antoine Sunier wine estate, and let yourself be seduced by these unique and authentic wines.
