Le Clos des Treilles is a wine estate founded by Nicolas Réau, a former professional pianist who became a winemaker after falling in love with the terroirsof Anjou and the Cabernet Franc grape variety. Since then, he has been producing natural wines in keeping with the gentle rhythm of Anjou.
It was actually in 1994 that Nicolas Réau’s path began to take shape; driven by his passion, he pursued a BTS in viticulture and oenology and honed his skills in Montagne Saint-Émilion. He quickly decided to return home to manage Clos des Treilles, where he handled all aspects of winemaking. In 2002, he took the plunge and took over the wine estate, certifying it as organic and eliminating the use of additives in the cellar and pesticides in the vineyard.
Nicolas Réau’s goal is now very clear: to produce pure wines that evoke a special emotion, a sense of elation. Each cuvée is crafted with this in mind, and his high standards—rooted in his background—yield truly remarkable results. This is one of the main reasons why the wines are so clean, precise, and free of any flaws.
Nicolas Réau is a master of the grape. He manages to draw out the very best of Cabernet Franc. We discover it in a new light, with floral notes and tart fruit; his wines exhibit elegant “Pinot-like” qualities. His “Enlèvement demandé” cuvée is an absolute delight, and the “Pompois” cuvée stands out for its unique aromatic depth.
The Chenin is also brilliantly crafted, notably with the “Attention Chenin Méchant” cuvée and his highly sought-after “Victoire” cuvée.
But to achieve such results, he had to commit to relentless work in the vineyard and cellar to extract exceptionally healthy grapes, optimal ripeness, and, above all, the greatest aromatic depth. This approach quickly led him to opt for extended macerations, which impart length, aromatic complexity, and intensity. A choice that has paid off, elevating him to the ranks of Anjou’s finest winemakers.
In conclusion, we can say that Nicolas Réau is an artist of winemaking who knows how to draw out the very best from his vineyards. He is a rare and precious talent who is truly committed to advancing the quality of wines within the Anjou appellation.
