Nicolas Reau Le Clos des Treilles - Anjou rouge "Pompois" 2020 | Loire

Nicolas Reau's cuvée Pompois is a plot-selected wine , with yields reduced to a minimum of 25 hectoliters per hectare. The soil is essentially composed of gravelly clay and limestone. The vines are 50 years old on average, and have been cultivated organically since Nicolas Réau joined the wine estate.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Pompois is the intermediate red cuvée of Clos des Treilles. It's the family jewel, a wine that is macerated for 5 weeks, then fermented in cement vats and oak barrels without fining , filtration or sulfur. Ageing takes place in old oak barrels.

On the nose, the wine reveals earthy notes, with hints of black fruit, timut pepper and menthol. The aromatic expression is intense from the outset, with no need for decanting.

The palate is juicy and full-bodied. The tannins add a slightly acidic edge and carry the wine through to a long finish. The finish is very fruity and slightly spicy, making you want to take another glass or two.
