In the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation, in Mauves, Domaine Bernard Gripa has been crafting exceptional, intense wines for nearly fifty years. Under the leadership of Bernard and later his son Fabrice, the Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray cuvées have become true benchmarks.
Descended from a line of winemakers dating back to the 17th century, the Gripas have played a major role in the revival of both appellations. As early as the 1970s, they made the rare decision to vinify their wines directly at the wine estate, thereby demonstrating their commitment to quality. Another remarkable aspect: the wine estate produces as many white wines as reds, a rarity in this region where Syrah dominates.
On the steep slopes of Saint-Péray, Marsanne and Roussanne vines thrive on exceptional limestone soil. There is no mechanization here, only absolute respect for the terroir and its identity. In Saint-Joseph, granite reigns supreme, giving the wines a distinctive character. The plots, located in the historic heart of the appellation between Mauves and Tournon, benefit from meticulous soil management and the time-honored practice of organic composting.
Under the leadership of Fabrice Gripa, who succeeded his father Bernard, each plot is carefully tended on the region’s famous granite soils. One of a kind, the wine estate produces as many white wines as reds, offering a rich and diverse sensory palette. The Marsanne and Roussanne grape varieties for the whites, and Syrah for the reds, thrive on the prestigious terroirs of Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray.
The vineyards, planted on steep, terraced slopes, require meticulous, manual labor. With absolute respect for nature, every task is carried out with care and attention according to the principles of sustainable viticulture.
