Long description
Domaine Gourt de Mautens is a wine estate in the Vaucluse region of France, created from scratch by the family of Jérôme Bressy, the maverick winemaker who convinced his father to go organic at just 23 years of age. Since 1989, the Gourt de Mautens wine estate has been cultivating its vines and making its wine in an environmentally-friendly way.
Jérôme Bressy knew right away that he wanted to produce great wines, even though at the time all the family's wine estate production was sent to the cooperative winery. It was only when the wine estate was handed over that Jérôme was finally able to put his talent to work for the terroir. In particular, by leaving the Rasteau appellation , which had restricted him to blending local grape varieties not suited to his terroirs.
Over time, the wine estate has become a veritable ampelographic conservatory , with well-known varieties such as Marsanne and Clairette, and much lesser-known ones such as Picardan, to name but a few of the white varieties.
Yields are kept as low as possible, to ensure that the quality of his wine is the best possible, whatever the vintage. A vision pushed to the extreme, as he painstakingly achieves 10 hectolitres per hectare from just 13 hectares. As a result, only 17,000 bottles are produced worldwide each vintage . These are rare and, above all, grandiose wines that reveal their great generosity and complexity with age.
If the work of nature takes precedence over everything else, ageing is equally essential for Jérôme Bressy, and nothing is left to chance. Countless tests and a wide variety of winemaking techniques enable him to adapt to each vintage, and to vinify his wines in different bottle sizes according to their characteristics. A true artisan, attentive to his vines and grapes. Without doubt one of the finest winemakers of his generation.
