Cuvée Le jardin de la Grosse Pierre is a grand cru champagne from the Bouzy terroir. It's a veritable jewel of complexity, and one of the most bewitching champagnes available today. Le jardin de la Grosse Pierre includes no fewer than 7 original grape varieties. It's a plot that has lived through history, since the vines have been planted since 1923 with the classic grape varieties, but also with a number of indigenous varieties historically present in the Champagne region. These include varieties such as arbanne, petit meslier and pinot blanc, which are much more widespread on the côte des bars.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Benoit Lahaye has created one of the finest cuvées in Champagne. In this cuvée, Le jardin de la Grosse Pierre, Benoit Lahaye seeks the pure, sincere expression of Bouzy's limestone terroir. He chose to harvest the entire plot on the same day and press all the grapes together. It's a bold choice, and one that's borne fruit. The result is dazzling, with powerful aromas and an elegant bouquet.
On the nose, hints of marzipan, pear, toasted notes, candied fruit and sweet spices are perfectly concentrated. It's rare to find so much complexity in a champagne nose.
On the palate, it's splendid, with very fine, light bubbles. The harmony of the nose is repeated on the palate, and the taste buds are awakened. The champagne's persistence is remarkable.
