Robert-Denogent’sPouilly-Fuissé Climat is a cuvée born of necessity, and that is precisely what makes it unique. When spring frost strikes the vineyards, the Denogent brothers blend all their Pouilly-Fuissé climats: 80% from La Croix on schist, 10% from Les Reisses on clay, and 10% from Vers Cras on limestone. Three terroirs, three expressions of Chardonnay, brought together in a single wine. The family-owned wine estate in Fuissé, now run by Nicolas and Antoine Robert, spans 13 hectares of vines ranging from 50 to 70 years old—some over a century old—cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation is spontaneous using native yeasts, and the wine undergoes ageing in used oak barrels without any oenological additives from start to finish.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Pouilly-Fuissé Climat de Robert-Denogent is a winemaker’s wine—not a calculated prestige cuvée, but an honest expression of what nature has provided. The wine estate’s approach is traditional, simple, artisanal, and minimally interventionist: as close as possible to the terroir, the climat, and the vintage. What you find in the glass is exactly that: a straightforward, precise, and lively Chardonnay.
On the nose, aromas of yellow peach, citrus zest, and fresh flowers unfold, with that hint of stone and schist characteristic of the Croix terroir; the nose is at once rich, mineral, and beautifully straightforward.
On the palate, it is rich, fresh, and mineral, with a long finish that lingers right through to the end.
