Fulmine du Clos Venturi is the great red cuvée of this emblematic Corsican wine estate, made from a blend of carefully selected native grape varieties: Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Carcaghjolu Neru, complemented by a hint of Syrah. Stemming from a granite and sandstone terroir between 300 and 480 meters above sea level in the commune of Piedigriggio, this vineyard benefits from a mountain climate combined with Mediterranean influences. Organically farmed and then certified biodynamic, the wine estate uses hand harvesting in crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit. In the cellar, winemaking follows a strict protocol. The grapes are partially destemmed, then matured in concrete vats or large tuns for almost a month and a half, with regular punching down, and fermented naturally using indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasts fourteen to eighteen months, with no new wood.
Philippe Mischler Mundovin sommelier: Clos Venturi Fulmine is a powerful, elegant wine, a true reflection of Corsica's climate. This prestigious cuvée is a testament to the wine estate's unique expertise, and promotes Corsican grape varieties far beyond the island's borders. Its refinement makes it a true gourmet wine.
The nose opens with a complex bouquet of ripe black berries, where plums and blackberries are enhanced by gently spicy notes of white pepper, garrigue and maquis. There's also a hint of minerality drawn directly from the granitic soils, giving the wine a sense of depth and elegance.
On the palate, the attack is serene and silky, with supple yet structured tannins and an almost velvety texture. Intense flavors of candied black fruit are enhanced by hints of licorice, pepper and light smoke. The structure is dense, well-balanced by taut acidity, and the finish reveals a persistent saline freshness, leaving a sensation of harmony and fullness on the palate.
