Domaine de Vaccelli’sUnu Rosé is one of the flagship cuvées of a family-owned wine estate founded in 1960 by Roger Courrèges. Passed down to his son Alain, and now to his grandson Gérard Courrèges, the wine estate cultivates its vineyards in Cognocoli-Monticchi, in the Taravo Valley, in southern Corsica. The Vaccelli style: meticulous plot-by-plot selections and an unwavering commitment to granite terroirs.
Terroirs and Grape Varieties
The vines are rooted in the granite-rich sandy soils characteristic of the southern part of the Ajaccio appellation. This well-drained, nutrient-poor soil, rich in mineral energy, forces the vines to draw water from deep underground and produces wines of natural integrity, a far cry from cloying, heady rosés. The blend forUnu rosé consists of 70% Sciaccarellu and 30% Cinsault. Sciaccarellu, a native Corsican grape variety, brings a delicately spiced aromatic finesse, while Cinsault complements it with its roundness and pure fruit. A truly effective pairing!
Viticulture and Winemaking
The wine estate is certified organic under the Ecocert label. Since 2021, Gérard Courrèges has been using volcanic sulfur, which is known to have less of an impact on the wine’s aromatic profile than conventional sulfur. The grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts selected right here on the wine estate. Ageing takes place entirely in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and precision of the fruit. No oak aging, no artificial interventions.

This rosé exemplifies the Taravo’s deep and unvarnished identity. The Unu is an approachable and food-friendly rosé—crystal-clear and crisp—that deserves our full attention. The blend of Sciaccarellu and Cinsault imparts an elegance that is rarely (and wrongly) associated with a rosé from the South. Serve at around 10–12 °C, without decanting. It is expected to reach its peak drinking period between 2028 and 2031, but it is already showing great generosity right now.
The Nose
The nose opens with bright, crisp notesof acacia and pomelo. A hint of fresh hazelnut follows, with a slightly creamy quality. Lemon adds a zesty, lively quality. The overall impression is expressive without being overbearing. A subtle minerality emerges in the background, a hallmark of granite.
Palate
On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and round, with a silky texture that envelops the palate. Freshness sets in quickly, carried by well-balanced acidity. The finish reveals a slight, noble bitterness and a hint of saltiness. The balance is there, clean and crisp, without any heaviness. A rosé that leaves the mouth feeling clean and calls for another glass.

The Ajaccio appellation covers the granite-rich hillsides of southwestern Corsica, surrounding the island’s capital. Its identity is rooted in the granite scree—light, well-draining soils that give the wines their characteristic mineral tension.
