Wine Description

The parcel known as Les Perrières, from which this cuvée is made, lies in the southern part of the Frionnes climat, classified as a 1er cru in Saint Aubin. Domaine de Villaine 's Saint Aubin 1er Cru Les Perrières , with its name and taut mineral signature, tells the story of this stony hillside terroir, where altitude and shallow soil depth reinforce the natural tension of Chardonnay. The stony soil, rich in active limestone, gives the grape a straight structure and a marked mineral imprint. The sunny yet balanced 2022 vintage reveals all the finesse of this place.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This Saint Aubin 1er Cru Les Perrières from Domaine de Villaine is a wine that is both nervous and subtle, with a very pure profile. Its mineral freshness makes it an excellent companion for fine, iodized dishes. It can be enjoyed now after decanting, or kept for up to 10 years to reach its peak drinking.

The nose opens with clear aromas of fresh citrus fruit, supported by a warm brioche aroma and a discreet touch of wood, the sign of well-integrated ageing. Herbaceous notes and hints of white pepper add freshness and complexity.

On the palate, the attack is precise, carried by broad, salivating acidity. Fresh fruit responds to mineral sensations in a well-balanced way, with an unexpected but well-controlled hint of sweetness. The full ripeness of whole-cluster-pressed Chardonnay berries is evident. The texture is taut, without heaviness. Very fine bitters accompany a slender finish, marked by a mineral sapidity. An outstanding 1er cru, which aptly expresses the tension and elegance of Saint Aubin's most chalky terroirs.
