The white Soula from the Le Soula wine estate embodies a singular vision of Roussillon, far from the usual standards. Wendy Wilson 's meticulous work on the granite soils of these high-altitude hillsides reveals whites of character, driven by the natural expression of the terroir. This cuvée is based on a blend of six grape varieties, with Vermentino, Grenache Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc taking center stage, joined by Marsanne, Roussanne and Macabeu. This blend of Mediterranean and Atlantic varieties produces a full-bodied, vibrant wine with chiseled aromas, volume and floral freshness. Each grape variety plays its part without dominating, in a subtle balance that is the signature of the Le Soula wine estate. The result is a white wine that is pure, digestible and complex, with no stylistic overtones.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Le Soula blanc 2018 is just right. The Vermentino brings élan, the Sauvignon Blanc tension, and the Grenache Blanc balances the whole with substance. The grape varieties complement each other without overload, with a certain natural grace that is utterly captivating. Wendy Wilson once again demonstrates her mastery of blending, bringing out the identity of Roussillon without artifice.
On the nose, an elegant bouquet dominated by lemon, grapefruit and honey notes. In the background, summery scents of orange blossom and orchard fruit.
On the palate, the wine is beautifully round, perfectly balanced by a lively acidity. The texture is silky, almost sensual, but without exaggeration, as freshness is never far away. Flavors of citrus and ripe fruit are followed by spicy accents reminiscent of turmeric. A slight mineral sensation on the finish gives the wine a very sapid aromatic persistence.
