Wine Description
Trigone rouge n°23 du Soula is a singular Roussillon cuvée, born in the foothills of the Pyrenees, between 400 and 600 meters above sea level. The Le Soula wine estate produces extraordinary wines, at the crossroads of Alpine freshness and Mediterranean depth. Trigone is an evolving wine of freedom, shaped vintage after vintage by variable blending, while retaining a common thread: the sincere expression of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache Noir, from aged vines grown at altitude on granite soils. This cuvée embodies Soula's vision of lively, easily digestible wines deeply rooted in their terroir. Wendy Wilson perpetuates the approach initiated by Gérard Gauby in the 1990s: viticulture that respects the living world, winemaking with finesse, faithful to the balance of its terroir. Produced from a blend of 2022 and 2023 vintages, this wine is vinified with indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, and aged for long periods in foudres to preserve freshness and balance.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Trigone is a soulful wine that is as direct as it is precise, embracing the complexity of life. It's the anti-bluff Wendy Wilson claims. Each number is a variation, but the DNA remains the same: drinkability, finesse, and a luminous expression of Roussillon. It's a red of terroir rather than grape variety, but what a pleasure to find the suppleness of Syrah, the freshness of Carignan and the character of Grenache Noir in this 23rd edition.
On the nose, the wine reveals a fruity, floral palette marked by black cherry and violet, with hints of black pepper. Hints of dried herbs and resin add a wild dimension typical of the high hillsides of Roussillon. The whole remains delicate and deeply engaging.
On the palate, the attack is supple, with a fresh, thirst-quenching texture. The tannins are silky, supported by a perfectly controlled, easily digestible acid structure. The aromas of the nose are echoed, amplified by a finish that lingers on infused notes.
