Champagne Marguet 'sGrande Ruelle Ambonnay Grand Cru is the quintessential Grand Cru Champagne, rooted in the very history of Ambonnay. The Pinot Noir is grown here on an emblematic plot, planted in 1967, on a soil combining shallow silty clay and fragmented chalk, facing north. Biodynamically cultivated, with hand and horse labor to preserve the soil, La Grande Ruelle produces some of the finest Blancs de Noirs on the wine estate. Winemaking takes place in Brut Nature, with fermentation in foudre followed by prolonged ageing on lees without dosage, reflecting Benoît Marguet 's determination to offer an expression faithful to terroir and vintage.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : La Grande Ruelle Ambonnay Grand Cru de Champagne Marguet offers a taut, uncluttered interpretation of Pinot Noir in the Montagne de Reims. It highlights the mineral impetus of this Grand Cru terroir, while preserving a clean, aromatic framework and great energy on the palate. This rare and already expressive cuvée is a natural choice for ageing, offering a precise interpretation of a Blanc de Noir de terroir, capable of improving with age.
The nose opens with enveloping aromas of ripe apple, stewed mirabelle plum and candied lemon. Discreet notes of fresh hazelnut and brioche crumb add superb complexity, devoid of any heaviness. The whole is straightforward, in keeping with the taut style of wines from this parcel.
On the palate, the attack is straightforward, with structuring acidity that energizes the expression of the fruit. The fine, well-integrated bubbles accompany a precise, fresh body. Orchard fruit aromas mingle with pure infusion notes. A delicately buttery sensation coats the palate on the mid-palate, and finds its balance in a marked saline dimension, typical of Ambonnay's chalky terroir. The taut, persistent finish marks a Brut Nature of remarkable limpidity, both expressive and perfectly balanced.
