Wine Description
Maxime Magnon’s Corbières blanc La Bégou has established itself, since its very first vintages, as one of the great Languedoc cuvées — a southern white with a northern spirit. The old vines of Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc, ranging from 60 to 80 years old, thrive in the heart of the Hautes-Corbières, at an altitude of 200 meters, on clay-limestone and schist soils in the communes of Villeneuve-les-Corbières, Durban, and Cascastel.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Maxime Magnon’s La Bégou white Corbières is undeniably a great white wine, every bit as good as a fine wine from the northern Rhône Valley. What is most impressive is its ability to keep the palate fresh thanks to a lingering saline note on the finish—a rarity in these southern latitudes. The aromatic purity is enhanced by extended ageing in Burgundy oak barrels, which refines the texture without ever masking the fruit or the terroir.
The nose is both full-bodied and refreshing, revealing aromas of white flowers, white fruits—with pear at the forefront—apple, apricot, followed by linden blossom, candied peach, and citrus, highlighted by a chalky, unwavering minerality.
The palate is clean, lively, and precise, with a round, almost creamy texture, perfectly integrated acidity, and remarkable mineral length. The finish lingers for a long time, featuring an iodine-like salinity and a hint of lemon that define a wine of incredible intensity and depth.
