Wine Description
Maxime Magnon’s L’Estrade Blanc is born where the vineyards meet the sea: on 4 hectares acquired in Peyriac-de-Mer, south of Narbonne, on a terroir of sandstone and white marl overlooking the lagoons, bathed in the direct influence of the Mediterranean coastline. A blend of equal parts White Grenache and Bourboulenc, this cuvée is vinified after a hand harvest using small crates. Created in 2021 out of Maxime Magnon’s desire to explore a new terroir, L’Estrade can be seen as the little sister of La Bégou—more marine, more airy, and resolutely oriented toward the light.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Maxime Magnon’s L’Estrade blanc perfectly illustrates his intellectual curiosity and his ability to reveal a terroir with remarkable economy of means. The winemaker’s signature style is clearly evident, with a profile that is both fruity and floral, and a lovely liveliness contributed by the Bourboulenc. The white Grenache brings fullness and roundness, while the Bourboulenc imparts its freshness and minerality: it is this balance that makes this white wine as much a wine for fine dining as it is for immediate enjoyment.
The nose is delicate, fresh, and luscious, with notes of pear and frangipane. Delicious notes of citrus, white flowers, apple, and vine peach unfold with a hint of smokiness and great aromatic finesse, along with subtle nuances of toasted almond and delicate white flowers in the background.
The palate is bursting with freshness from the first sip, then develops into a full-bodied, luscious texture. The delicate aromas of green apple and lemon are highlighted and enlivened by a subtle effervescence. The finish gains intensity with a lingering aftertaste of fresh apple and lemon pulp.
