Maxime Magnon’s Saint Jacques emerges from the lands of Peyriac-de-Mer as a quintessentially southern expression, shaped by the hand of a Burgundian winemaker by adoption. A blend of Grenache Noir, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre, it is grown on a terroir of white marl and sandstone, overlooking the lagoons and benefiting from its proximity to the Mediterranean coast. In 2021, drawn by the seaside atmosphere and eager to work with a new terroir, Maxime Magnon decided to cultivate these 4 hectares in Peyriac-de-Mer, giving rise to this cuvée. In the vineyard, following in the footsteps of his friend Barral, cows and other animals keep the plots weed-free and enrich the soil, without chemicals and with minimal intervention.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Maxime Magnon’s Saint Jacques embodies the wine estate’s vision with rare sincerity. The three grape varieties are macerated separately for 20 days as whole clusters in large oak vats, followed by gentle pressing and ageing in vats that have previously held several wines, with the blend finalized two months before bottling. This style is now fully established, characterized by great drinkability, a refined texture, and remarkable precision of flavors.

The nose reveals magnificent notes of ripe cherries, wild strawberries, wildflowers, sweet spices, and garrigue. The Grenache expresses itself generously with notes of strawberry and raspberry jam, along with a hint of rose and cranberry.

The palate is juicy and fruity, with a hint of tartness, supported by a light tannic structure. The fine, perfectly integrated tannins lend a velvety texture, while the balance between freshness and richness elevates the wine as a whole. The finish lingers long on candied red fruits mingled with garrigue aromas and a hint of sweet spices.
