Wine Description

The Mercurey 1er Cru Les Naugues cuvée comes from a privileged terroir of well-draining clay-limestone soils, conducive to the purest expression of Pinot noir. Situated on a well-exposed hillside, the vines benefit from optimal sunshine and a temperate climate that favors even ripening of the grapes, while preserving their freshness.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : To preserve the integrity of the fruit and reveal the full potential of the terroir, the grapes are harvested by hand. After cold maceration to extract color and aroma, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under the action of indigenous yeasts, guaranteeing an authentic expression of the grape variety. Vatting lasts between 15 and 20 days, with gentle pumping over and punching down to structure the wine without excessive extraction. Ageing takes place in oak barrels for 12 months, of which 25% is new wood, to bring subtle complexity without masking the finesse of the fruit. The moderate use of wood gives the wine an elegant patina, while respecting its natural balance.

On the nose, an expressive, refined bouquet opens with notes of black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry, enhanced by floral touches of violet and delicately spicy nuances of black pepper, licorice and vanilla.

On the palate, the attack is marked by bright fruit and a well-integrated tannic structure. The wine is full-bodied, with a harmonious structure in which freshness balances the ripeness of the fruit. On the mid-palate, flavors of juicy plum, candied Morello cherry and a hint of cocoa are sustained by a fine minerality that prolongs the elegant finish.
